MRI, PET, and another Ultrasound

The MRI results were not conclusive. There was just enough concern and uncertainty that led to a PET scan being ordered. Sherry had already completed her 1st chemo treatment by the time the PET scan was performed on 9/22/23. The PET scan indicated some potential spreading into the lymph nodes under the arms, which was not shown on the MRI or ultrasound. The area of concern seen in the MRI results were found to be a non-issue.

Sherry was referred to get a repeat ultrasound. She ended up getting the same technician that performed her first ultrasound. The ultrasound technician could not find anything of concern with the lymph nodes and brought a doctor in to help with the ultrasound.

We are in a bit of a holding pattern on this imaging thing. Since the results will not change any current treatment plan, we are consider next steps. We may make a trip to Duke or anther larger hospital to get tests rerun and to get some counseling on the way forward. The local hospital system is not instilling confidence int he area of imaging with all the back and forth, As Sherry says, “it is like they are fishing for an affected lymph node.”

Please pray for us to have discernment on this issue. The oncologist has confirmed that the timing of getting these details nailed down is not critical right now.
